THE FISHERMAN by Fiona Hartmann

No one knows better

than you that there are plenty

of fish in the sea

swinging around your rod

your silver trophy hanging

hook-penetrated

through the eye

blind-baited

as they are pulled heaven

bound to their asphyxiated

fate

it is meant to be a mercy

to be thrown back

to this wet

saliva ocean

I would rather you leave

gasping

than for you

to drown

my

world
